The Busan Coal Bank, which provides low-income households with free coal briquettes, received a five million won (US$4,650) donation from the father of a young sailor who died last month following an accident on board a cargo ship. Just two days before departing on the ill-fated voyage, Jeong Seung-hoon, a 23 year old who graduated last year from the Korea Maritime and Ocean University in Busan, had pledged to donate 20,000 won (US$19) per month to the coal bank. His father used a portion of the insurance money from his son’s death to make the donation, saying, “Please use this in a valuable way to honor my son.”
