Cleaning workers from Dongkuk University held a demonstration to demand a meeting with the university president outside of the main building of campus on Jan. 15. The workers are upset that the school has refused to fill the positions of retired workers, instead handing out “working scholarships” to students in order to avoid the cost of hiring new full-time workers. Yonsei, Korea University, and Hongik University have all come under similar criticism for their hiring practices. The woman’s sign says, “Wake up to the fact that Dongkuk University is even seizing the jobs of irregular workers.” (by Baek So-ah, staff photographer)
