For the first time in 36 years, a cosmic event known as a “super-blood blue moon” took place on Jan. 31. The spectacular sight was the result of a combination of the three unusual events: a super moon, a blue moon, and a total lunar eclipse. A blue moon refers to the second full moon in a month, which typically occurs about once every three years, while a super moon takes place when the moon is closest to the Earth during its orbit.
