[Photo] Former US military sites in Gyeonggi Province being transformed into residential areas

Gyeonggi Province is slowly transforming former US military sites into areas to benefit the local population, including the Maehyangri shooting range in Hwaseong County, and Camp Castle in Dongducheon. Public hearings have been scheduled for Feb. 7 and 8 to discuss development plans, which are to be implemented over the next five years. Last June, the government built the largest youth baseball complex in Asia near the site of the Kooni shooting range, which had been used for over fifty years by the US Air Force. Residents have also made an artistic display of the more than 30,000 bombs which have been collected from the site. (Hankyoreh Archive)
