Four high school students Gongju High School in Gongju, South Chungcheong Province held a flea market at their school last November to raise money for a bus advertising campaign to commemorate former Korean comfort women. The four first year students, (from left) Lee Yeong-chang, Lee Si-weon, Park Hyun-jin, and Lee Yong-seong, wanted to make sure that the public remembers the suffering that the women endured during the Japanese colonial occupation.
The advertisement, which reads, “Because if you forget, it’s gone,” appears on the side of Gongju City bus #100. The students also bought 400 badges reading “Don’t forget! A people who forget the past don’t have a future,” which they then gave away or sold at a reduced price, “to divide the pain of the former comfort women.” (provided by Gongju City High School)
