[Photo] 3000 police officers deployed as THAAD protests continue

Demonstrations against deployment of the THAAD anti-missile defense system continued in Seongju, North Gyeongsang Province as about 150 members of local civic organizations staged a sit-in on the sole road leading into the base on Apr. 23. About 3000 police officers were deployed to the area to disperse the demonstrators and clear the road. Following the demonstrators’ removal, the Defense Ministry sent construction equipment and material into the base in order to complete remaining work on roofing and wastewater treatment facilities.
