The Sewol ferry sunk off the coast of Jindo, South Jeolla Province, on April 16, 2014. The tragic incident claimed over 300 lives, many of them schoolchildren who were on a field trip. The wreckage was salvaged and moved to the port of Mokpo in March 2017, where it remained on its side until May 10, when it was erected to stand upright. The below photos show the Sewol on its side and after it was raised.
