Demonstrators gathered on May 16 at the Franciscan Education Center in Seoul to honor Moon Song-myeon, an industrial worker for the Wonjin Rayon Company who died from exposure to mercury and other toxic chemicals while working for the company’s thermometer sector. Moon died on May 16, 1988, at the age of 15. The demonstrators mourned the 30th anniversary of Moon’s death and made efforts to raise awareness of industrial and occupational hazards in Korea’s manufacturing industry.
