According to officials in the Gimpo city government, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) has plans to construct a Peace Ecological Park in the region surrounding Aegibong Peak in 2019. Situated at the northern end of Gimpo, Aegibong Peak, which straddles the border with North Korea, is where a group of Christian conservatives installed a giant Christmas tree visible to North Koreans in Dec. 2010. The peak overlooks North Korea, and access is restricted to South Koreans. MOIS plans on converting the region from a symbol of conflict into one of peace and reconciliation.
