[Photo] Former US Army oil storage site returns to Pohang residents

A plot of land that once used by the US military has finally been returned to local residents, after 56 years. Originally used as a site for oil storage by US Forces Korea until 1992, the plot of land in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, was returned to the Ministry of National Defense (MND) in 1992. However, the MND made no use of the land, leaving it neglected until its acquisition by the Pohang city government this year. The city’s full ownership of the land is expected to be granted in 2021, before which discussion will be held concerning the land’s public usage.
