On June 14, prosecutors requested that the courts sentence ex-president Park Geun-hye to 12 years in prison for accepting bribes of up to 3.65 billion won (US$3.34) from the National Intelligence Service (NIS). They also requested a fine of 8 billion won (US$7.32 million). Although Park’s trial began on June 14, she was absent. Accused under separate charges of corruption and bribery, the ex-president has been boycotting all her trials thus far, claiming her prosecution is “political revenge” by the current administration.
