To fight recent increases in smog and fine particles, the Ministry of Environment has announced plans to convert all buses in Seoul and the surrounding metropolitan area to environmentally friendly models, such as electric and hydrogen vehicles, by 2027. The plans were introduced during a meeting with Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Incheon Mayor Park Nam-chun and Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung. Also, starting next year, cars with poor emissions ratings will be prohibited from entering Seoul's city center. To keep Korea on a global scale of environmental cleanliness, the environment ministry also plans to suggest changing South Korea's emissions standards to those that resemble Western Europe's.
