[Photo] Working to prevent tropical red fire ant spread in sweltering heat

After the discovery of a queen fire ant in Incheon Port Container Terminal, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs dispatched a quarantine team of investigators and academics on July 8. Along with the queen fire ant, which had been spotted in Incheon Port for the first time, investigators found 16 caterpillars and over 560 worker ants. The above photo shows workers and investigators working to contain the ants and prevent further infestation, as fire ants are known to cause massive damage to crops and infrastructure while presenting a hazard to human health.
