The Korean National Police Agency announced on July 15 that it will be distributing complimentary GPS wristbands to patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. The bands are designed to help dementia patients return home should they start wandering or get lost, and will hopefully reduce the number of persons who go missing. The bands will be distributed from July 16 to Oct. 31. Last year, 6,000 wristbands were distributed. Of the dementia patients who went missing, 25 were discovered at an average time of 1.2 hours, compared to the average of 11.8 hours it took without the bands.
