According to results announced on Aug. 20 by the polling organization Realmeter, support for the South Korean President Moon Jae-in fell to 56.3 percent, reflecting a decrease of 1.8 percentage points. Disapproval, meanwhile, rose two percentage points to 38.4 percent. On Aug. 13-14 and 16-17, 2,007 South Korean adults were surveyed on their satisfaction with President Moon’s handling of state affairs. Experts indicated the acquittal of former South Chungcheong Governor Ahn Hee-jung, who was accused of sexual assault, and controversies surrounding the national pension fund as possible sources of public disapproval for Moon and the ruling Democratic Party.
