[Photo] High school students fight for unjustly terminated security guards

Security guards hired as irregular workers for Goyang Global High School in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, received a sudden notice of termination, saying their employment contracts would end on Aug. 31. In response, over 80 students gathered in front of the school on Aug. 27 to demand the reinstatement of the security guards, as they were unjustly terminated for no apparent reason. They also organized a petition which was signed by 541 of the school’s 600 students. The controversy has caused the Gyeonggi Province Office of Education to declare that the school had no reasonable grounds for termination. The civic group Ordinary People, however, declared that it will continue to fight for fair working conditions of irregular employees in public schools. (provided by Ordinary People)
