Seoul’s severely disabled people rallied on the streets near City Hall to protest the lack of governmental measures for people with severe disabilities who are unable to support themselves without help. Although the current administration has taken measures to shorten the work week and raise workers’ wages, it has yet to introduce legislation that helps the severely disabled with their everyday needs. In particular, the recently amended legislation on working hours dictates that workers are entitled to 30 minutes of rest for every four hours, or one hour per every eight hours, of work. However, as the severely disabled required 24-hour attention, many in the community are claiming the lack of additional measure is akin to a death sentence. (Kang Chang-kwang, staff photographer)
