South Korean first lady Kim Jung-sook visited the Sorokdo National Hospital, established by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for patients suffering from Hansen’s disease (leprosy), in Goheung County, South Jeolla Province, on Oct. 23. She met with patients and hospital staff alike to provide words of admiration and encouragement. It was the second visit to the hospital by a first lady following a visit in 2000 by Lee Hui-ho, wife of then President Dae-jung. Kim apologized for not visiting sooner and expressed her wish that the hospital becomes a symbol of hope and healing rather than suffering. (provided by the Blue House)
