After having been found to falsify his records related to military service, South Korean defender Jang Hyun-soo has been dealt a lifetime ban from playing for the national team by the Korea Football Association (KFA). He has also been sentenced to a fine of 30 million won (US$26,835) for his actions. Jang has now been stripped of his right to compete in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates in January 2019. After being exempted from military service in 2014 following a gold medal victory in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, Jang was found to have falsified volunteer records that contributed to his exemption.
