[Photo] Seoul to build system of bike-exclusive lanes throughout city

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is launching its “Eco-Bike Line” project, a system of highways and paths designed exclusively for bicycles. The lanes will be properly separated from roads so as to ensure the safety of cyclers and address the discomfort and inconvenience of having to share the same space with vehicles. However, critics have lambasted the project as exacerbating the vehicle-centric approach to travel by excluding cyclists from main roads. The city announced on Nov. 7 that it will be holding a contest for ideas on how to make the project as effective and safe as possible.
