The South Korean birth rate for September plummeted by 13.3% compared to the same period last year. According to the Statistics Korea, 26,100 babies were born in September 2018, 4,000 less than the same month last year. A mere 252,000 babies were born from January to September of 2018; this was the first instance of less than 300,000 babies being born for that period. The marriage for September also decreased by 20.1% from last year, indicating the severe progression of South Korea’s aging society.
