Kim Sun-ok, a survivor of sexual slavery under the Japanese military, passed away at the age of 96 on Dec. 5 at Asan Medical Center in Seoul. Kim’s passing has reduced the current number of comfort women survivors registered with the South Korean government to 26. Kim was born in Pyongyang in 1922 and forced to become a comfort woman to Japanese troops in China in 1940. She is another victim to pass away without ever receiving a proper apology from the Japanese government.
