The Korea Forest Service (KFS) has taken the initial steps for restoration work on the forests of Mt. Gariwang, which were indiscriminately razed to construct alpine ski courses for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The KFS has submitted its restoration plan to the Gangwon Provincial Office and requested the necessary resources. Should Gangwon Province refuse to comply, the KFS plans on resorting to the Administrative Vicarious Execution Act. Gangwon Province and some Jeongseon County residents are in opposition to the forest restoration because of the potential economic benefits of the ski resorts.
