[Photo] ROK First and Third Armies combine into Ground Operations Command

The First and Third Republic of Korea (ROK) Field Army Commands have merged into Ground Operations Command (GOC). The GOC launching ceremony was held in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on Jan. 9. The GOC is meant to streamline the Army’s structure and operations and is set to be headed by General Kim Un-yong, former commander of the Third ROK Army. The GOC will lead all ground operations in the case of war breaking out on the Korean Peninsula under the supervision of US Forces Korea (USFK).
