A memorial to commemorate Korean women resisted Japanese colonial occupation and fought for independence was unveiled in Seoul on Feb. 8. The memorial, funded by the Project to Commemorate Korean Female Independence Activists Against Japan, depicts two Korean students making copies of a declaration of independence on the night before Feb. 8, 1919, when over 600 students residing in Japan gathered in downtown Tokyo in support of Korean independence. The memorial, named “The Eve of the Great Act,” has been erected in Baejae Children’s Park. (Baek So-ah, staff photographer)
