The Sewol ferry tragedy of April 2014 resulted in the death of 250 students at Danwon High School, in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. The students, had it not been for the tragedy, would have graduated in 2016. While an honorary graduation ceremony was scheduled for that year, the parents of the victims whose remains had yet to be recovered requested that the ceremony be delayed until all the victims’ remains were recovered. While the remains of two victims remain uncovered, the school went ahead with the ceremony on Feb. 12.
