The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced that, starting Feb. 15, old diesel vehicles produced before 2008 will be banned from city streets from 6 am to 9 pm on days when fine particle pollution levels are particularly high. This puts around 400,000 diesel vehicles that are subject to this restriction. The new regulation will be enforced via CCTV cameras through the city’s road network. Drivers of such vehicles caught driving in the Seoul on such days will be subject to a fine of 100,000 won (US$89.12). Exceptions will be made for vehicles of disabled persons.
