South Korea’s emergency anti-pollution legislation enacted on Feb. 15 took effect nationwide (excepting Jeju Island) for the first time on Feb. 22. Any diesel vehicles produced before 2008 were banned from driving in 16 cities and provinces nationwide, including the Seoul metropolitan area, from 6 am to 9 pm. Drivers caught violating the ban will be fined up to 100,000 won (US$88.83).
