Goseong County, Gangwon Province, is pushing for converting the bunker of former the late Roh Moo-hyun, former South Korean president and the country’s first active-duty soldier to become president, into a tourist attraction open to the public. The county is planning installing an observatory and a park in the area surrounding the bunker in the name of inter-Korean peace and unification, an earnest goal of the late president, and is negotiation with military authorities to make it happen. The county hopes the bunker will become a key tourist attraction in the area like the nearby Mt. Kumgang Observatory (717 Observation Post). The bunker is currently vacant for reasons of operational security. (provided by Goseong County)
