Members of an environmental conservation group held a press conference in Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Plaza on Mar. 12 to call for the abandonment of diesel vehicles. Holding up placards that read, “We can’t have clear skies without abandoning diesel vehicles,” the group called for concrete government measures for reducing the country’s 9.98 million registered diesel vehicles (as of February 2019). The demonstrators wore gas masks to emphasize the message that South Korea’s air is becoming increasingly unbreathable.
