The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency announced on Mar. 19 that around 10 million baby salmon will be released into local rivers. The release is part of a project to build a sustainable domestic fishing industry. Around 4 million of the baby salmon will be released on Mar. 19 into the Namdae River in Yangyang County, Gangwon Province. The fish are expected to swim to the northern Pacific and return around three to five years later. As South Korea imported around US$300 million in salmon in 2018, a sustainable domestic salmon industry could harvest many economic benefits. (provided by Korea Fisheries Resources Agency)
