Hotel Shilla CEO Lee Boo-jin, daughter of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee, has bene suspected of habitually taking injections of propofol, an intravenous anesthetic agent normally used for procedural sedation. Lee has publicly responded to allegations by saying she’s received medical attention but has not taken any illegal injections. Newstapa, an investigative journalism site, reported on Mar. 20 that Lee received propofol regular injections at a plastic surgery clinic in the affluent Seoul neighborhood of Cheongdam, citing a testimony from a nurse at the clinic. Proprofol was put in the public spotlight after it was discovered to be the cause of death of pop star Michael Jackson.
