Imported cars now account for more than 10% of cars driven in South Korea. According to data released by the Korea Insurance Development Institute on Mar. 25, imported cars accounted for 11% of all registered cars in 2018, an increase from the 9.8% recorded in 2017. People in their 40s comprised the majority of imported car owners (31.9%), followed by people in their 30s (27.6%) and 50s (22.7%). Conversely, drivers in their 50s comprised the majority of people with domestic cars (28.9%), followed by drivers in their 40s (28.4%) and 30s (20%). It also turns out that men account for 70.8% of imported car drivers and 74% of domestic car drivers, meaning the percentage of female drivers is greater for imported cars.
