The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority plan to launch a program for fostering drone operators in an attempt to increase drones’ utilization in the public sector. Last year, drone operators were trained to deploy drones for firefighting, police operations, land surveys and coast guard operations. This year they’ll be trained for additional fields such as environmental and forest projects as well as agricultural projects. Some drones will even be dispatched to survey air conditions and pollution levels. The South Korean government is expected to deploy over 4,000 drones into the public sector by 2021.
