Four Liberty Korea Party (LKP) lawmakers, including Kim Tae-heum, who has been chosen to head a “special committee for deterring a leftist dictatorship,” shaved their heads in front of the National Assembly on May 2 to protest the Democratic Party’s fast-tracking of reform bills. The LKP, the main opposition party, also held rallies all across South Korea to protest what they see as a suppressive administration under President Moon Jae-in. The LKP claims that fast-tracking reform bills goes against the principles of parliamentary democracy. The reform bills they’re trying to block aim to increase the number of proportional representation seats in the National Assembly. All other major parties, including the conservative-leaning Bareunmirae Party, agreed to the reform bills.
