Approval ratings for South Korean President Moon Jae-in stood at 51.8% as of July 22, the highest they’ve been in the past eight months, according to polling organization Realmeter. The rise in approval is seen as a reflection of the public’s approval for Moon standing up to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Tokyo’s recent export controls, which have sparked anti-Japanese sentiment among South Korean consumers that has led to a boycott campaign against Japanese products. Disapproval ratings stood at 43.1%, a decrease of 4.2 percentage points from the previous week.
