The South Korean military plans on carrying out maritime defensive drills for the Doko islets. During a session of the National Assembly Steering Committee on Aug. 6, Blue House National Security Office Director Chung Eui-yong revealed the defensive drills will be conducted in two phases within this year. Although such defensive drills are a regular occurrence, conducting them amid current South Korea-Japan trade tensions is being seen as particularly significant. This year’s drills, however, will involve the army, navy, air force, and even the marines. The photo shows Chung addressing the National Assembly Steering Committee on Aug. 6.
