While carless roads have been regularly implemented in Seoul Gangbuk (north of the Han River) districts, the same system will now be applied to Gangnam (south of the river) districts. The system involves cooperation among the Seoul Metropolitan Government and district governments and police to ensure that motorized vehicles are prohibited from entering certain roadways from 12pm to 6pm on certain days. Carless road days are usually reserved for street festivals and events. The Seoul Metropolitan Government will implement carless roads in Seocho District on Sept. 21 and 29 on a trial basis.
