[Photo] National Assembly passes bills for free high school education

South Korea is to provide free high education for second and third-year students starting next year. The benefits are to be expanded to include first-year students the following year. On Oct. 31, the National Assembly passed bills that set the grounds for free high-school education. The revised bills stipulate that the national government and local governments would subsidize tuition fees and other educational costs for high school. Certain private schools will be exempt from the new laws depending on presidential orders. The plan is to provide cover 880,000 students in 2020 and 1.26 million students by 2021.
