[Photo] Oriental stork to be released near Miho Stream starting 2022

The city of Cheongju, in North Chungcheong Province, has announced that it will release Oriental stork near Miho Stream, a Geum River tributary, starting in 2022. The area near Miho Stream is the last site where wild Oriental stork were spotted before being poached off in 1971. A research team of Korea National University of Education began raising and breeding Oriental stork brought in from Russia and Germany in 1996. Oriental stork have been released into the wild on a reserve in Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province, since 2015.
