The AP reported on Nov. 21 that Air China announced it would be temporarily suspending the Beijing-Pyongyang route due to a lack of passengers.
“The [route] can’t be operated in a satisfactory way, so it is being temporarily suspended,” a company spokesman told the AP, adding that the airline was unsure of when flights would be resumed. Song Thao, chief of the International Liaison Department of the Chinese Communist Party and Xi Jinping’s special envoy to North Korea, recently returned to Beijing from Pyongyang on the evening of Nov. 20, flying on what ended up being the route’s final flight.
