Six minutes after North Korea launched its Hwasong-15 missile at 3:17 am on the morning of Nov. 29, the South Korean military responded with a live fire drill in the East Sea designed to simulate an attack on a North Korean missile base. The drill incorporated the Haeseong-2 cruise missile, which has a range of 1,000 km, the Hyunmoo-2 ballistic missile, which has a 300 km range, and the SPICE-2000 air-to-surface missile, which was fired from a Korean Air Force F-16 and can fly 57 kilometers. An Aegis class ship was also deployed during the exercise, which lasted just over 21 minutes. “The training proves that the military is capable and determined to strike the North’s military facilities anytime from ground, ship, or air with pinpoint precision,” said a press release issued by the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff.
