The first civic group in the nation with the goal of supporting the South and North Korean teams in the Pyeongchang Olympics gathered at a small theatre in Busan Democracy Park on Jan. 31. The Busan Division of the Association to Implement the 6.15 Declaration said that the group’s experience with supporting the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, which contained a joint South and North Korean cheering team, gave them confidence that this current endeavor would help to ensure the success of the Olympics. The group aims to join the official inter-Korean cheer group to support the unified Korean women’s hockey team. The banner says, “Peace Olympics, Unified Pyeongchang: We support the effort to publicize the South and North Korean athletes and the unified [women’s hockey] team. We are one.” (by Kim Kwang-soo, Busan correspondent)
