A small weir that created the Migeum Reservoir on a tributary of the Han River in the Bundang district of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province is being dismantled from Apr. 27. In a joint statement released on Apr. 24, Seongnam City and the Korea Federation for Environmental Movement stated that the decision was made as part of an effort to restore water quality and allow the Tancheon tributary to flow freely. Environmental experts have suggested that the weir removal could be a model for how to mitigate the water quality damage caused by the Lee Myung-bak administration’s Four Rivers Project.
