The late President Roh Moo-hyun, in a gesture of peace and reconciliation, planted a tree in North Korea during his talks with then leader Kim Jong-il in 2007. On June 14, 2018, during the general-level inter-Korean military talks at Panmunjeom’s Unification House (Tongilgak), in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, representative of the North Korean delegation Lieutenant General Ahn Ik-san presented a photograph of the same tree Roh planted, saying that it was “alive and well.” Ahn presented the photograph about 35 minutes into the talks.
