In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 25, the Singapore government revealed that it spent 16.3 million Singapore dollars (US$12 million) on hosting the North Korea-US summit. Without providing too many details, the ministry spokesperson said the majority of the costs were devoted to security. Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had estimated costs to be around 20 million Singapore dollars (US$15 million). Although some locals expressed anger over the extravagant costs, some experts suggest the summit’s resulting publicity could generate up to 10 times the original costs.
