South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and its North Korean counterpart have discovered 16 submerged rocks during a joint hydrographic survey of Han River estuaries. The rocks were not on any previous marine charts. Within 20 days of beginning the survey, the joint team has successfully surveyed 77% of the waters charted for inspection. The joint survey is part of an effort to make the estuaries safe for boat passage. In the photo, Yoon Chang-hee, head of the South Korean hydrographic survey team, shakes hands with the head of the North Korean team near a Han River estuary near Ganghwa Island, Gangwha County, on Nov. 5.
