In spite of the drawbacks of the Hanoi summit, North Korean proceeded with his scheduled official friendly visit to Vietnam on Mar. 1 by heading to the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, where he met with Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong. Kim’s departure for the palace occurred mere 26 hours after the disappointing conclusion of the second North Korea-US summit. Some observers speculated that the sudden collapse of discussions during the summit would impact Kim’s friendly visit, but the North Korean leader proceeded as planned. (AP/EPA/Yonhap News)
