The South Korean government has begun repair work on equipment for video reunions of divided Korean families. Old equipment was either discarded and replaced or repaired at the Korean Red Cross headquarters in Seoul on Apr. 3. The video reunions will be held this year to carry out inter-Korean agreements reached in September last year. The South Korean government is also planning to repair video equipment in North Korea with permission from the US government. Electronic equipment applies to UN sanctions on North Korea, so an exemption is required to carry out the repairs. Video reunions for divided families have been suspended since 2007, meaning much of the equipment is either outdated or unusable. Repairs were done in collaboration with telecommunications company KT. (Baek So-ah, staff photographer)
