An Australian student has been released after being detained in North Korea for a week. Alek Sigley, 29, who had been pursuing a degree in Korean literature from Kim Il-sung University before being detained, arrived at Beijing International Airport on July 4. Addressing reporters, Sigley simply said, “I’m okay. I’m good,” without discussing the reason for his detainment. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told the press that Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang played a vital role in Sigley’s release, as it was the Swedish government that raised the issue to North Korea.
